This project focused on the branding of an established company and client-based design. I implemented meaningful material applications, focused on space planning, and was an introduction to reflected ceiling plans.
1 | Scotch and Soda Clothing
This jacket was selected and broken down into linear lines to create a parti diagram for the RCP and influenced circulation
The materiality I imagined for this project was natural-toned woods, natural upholsteries, and highly textured materials. Lighting was important because it would be used to draw attention to specific spaces. Using durable materials such as brick, leather, and wood kept the space easy to maintain. I wanted to keep the space clean yet warm, which is why a rich green, which implies wealth, was the main color. Alongside a white to keep the space clean-cut and simulate professionalism.
The atmosphere is moody, sophisticated, and comfortable. The target market was men in Brookings, South Dakota, which has a lack of clothing for the professional working masculine dressing population. I wanted to draw them in with an this heavy atmosphere that is not provided anywhere else.
Easy navigation was a priority, this was done by taking account of the customer experience through the usage of sectioning clothing types. The shell of the building was given to me, and designing around established features, such as the windows and front vestibule was a challenge. Creating highly functional the private spaces was important to make the space efficient for the employees spaces and inviting for guest in those more closed off areas, such as the dressing room. My discovery of using rooms to create a hallway towards the back of the store was the balance between privacy and accessability.
The final application of the parti diagram resulted in the exposure of beams that also played into the circulation of the building. The diagonal lines are dynamic and pull customers into the space to explore more clothing options. A simple lighting design that focused around lighting was was placed on the show floor. The circle was once again implemented with a spherical lighting fixture above the cashwrap, which plays into the heriarcy of this area.
